After a long dry spell, I’m happy to say that my little poem HALLOWE’EN is now live at The American Journal of Poetry, along with a feast of others! My thanks again to editor Robert Nazarene for giving it a home.

Congratulations, Lynne – I like how you start with a broad sweep then narrow focus to one participant!
I’ve never been a Halloween fan though dressing up in costumes does appeal (just not the tricky stuff, thank you!) Costumed characters in plays serves (as does Halloween) to “try on” being someone/something else. This can contribute to better understanding the true self … I hope your “little John” grew through masquerading (as opposed to entrapped in pretending).

Thanks for your insightful comments, Jazz! I’ll never know how the little ghost guy turned out – I was struck by the possible irony of his costume choice. I’m not into costumes myself but you make a good point about trying on other identities!

Congratulations, Lynne. Nice wordplay here. Does little John have a ghost of a chance of controlling his own future?

Hah! Well said, Ken! Really he does but sadly some like him don’t realize that in time.

Congratulations Lynne!
Those last two lines…
“…a ghost again in the dark,
knocking at his own door.”
Haunting!
